The Adriatic Recovery Project is a campaign led by MedReAct with Legambiente, Marevivo, the Stanford University and the Marche Polytechnic for the recovery of deep seas ecosystems and depleted fish stocks of the Adriatic Sea.
The Adriatic is one of the most important areas in the Mediterranean for shared fish stocks.
Here fishing, particularly trawling and dredging, has historically been the greatest ecological stressor. As a consequence of intensive fishing, fish stocks are chronically overexploited and marine habitats are under constant aggression.
Fisheries Restricted Areas are considered one of the most efficient tools to integrate the ecosystem-based approach into fisheries management and contribute to the recovery of marine living resources.
